Are Your Employees Busy But not very Productive?

This could be due to the modern day overload of information and distractions. When our focus is impaired by this kind of onslaught our productivity is compromised.

We may not be able to stop the distractions but we can definitely learn how to deal with them wisely with Mindfulness.

We can rediscover our capacity to prioritise, focus and not merely cope but excel.
We can enjoy job satisfaction again and say goodbye to constant feelings of stress and time-chasing.

Omindfulness and What We Offer brings training to corporate groups and individuals to improve efficiency, productivity, happiness and well-being.
Mindfulness is on the programme of the Mayo Clinic, in the meeting rooms of Google, Intel, General Mills and on the lips of Ruby Wax, Goldie Hawn and of course Jon Kabat-Zinn, it’s founder.

Mindfulness is in the News

There is very good reason why Mindfulness is in the press; we need it and it works!

Jon Kabat-Zinn brought Mindfulness to UMASS in the 1970’s and now it is practiced worldwide from the military to kindergarten.

Harvard Business Review Discusses Mindfulness in the Workplace

“Intel began offering it’s Awake@intel mindfulness program in 2012. On average, participants report a two-point decrease (on a scale of 1 to 10) in stress and feeling overwhelmed, a three-point increase in overall happiness and well-being, and a two-point increase in new ideas, insights, mental clarity, creativity, ability to focus, quality of relationships at work, and level of engagement in meetings, projects and team efforts. These were all articulated goals of the programme”.

Mindfulness Can Improve Strategy Too

In an age in which corporations and public organisations are increasingly under attack for short-term thinking, a dearth of vision and perfunctory reactions to quick stimuli, Mindfulness is helping organisations, not just individual leaders, behave more intentionally. Organisational leaders are bringing Mindfulness into the strategic planning process, able to move forward with new vision rather then following the old storylines and habitual patterns that may have guided behaviour in the past.

Research at Case Western Reserve University

Mindfulness in the workplace improves employee focus, attention and behaviour, new management-based research concludes.

The researchers at Case Western considered 4,000 scientific papers on various aspects of Mindfulness and concluded that Mindfulness is a management tool that can lift an entire workplace by improving focus, stress management and team spirit.

The findings; Contemplating Mindfulness at Work (An Integrative Review) were published in the Journal of Management and highlighted the positive effect of Mindfulness on the stability and duration of attention which leads to greater efficiency. It was also seen that Mindfulness may improve relationships through greater empathy and compassion, suggesting that Mindfulness could enhance any workplace process that relies on effective leadership and teamwork.

What is the Mechanism that Leads to Such Significant Improvements at Work?

Mindfulness increases activity in the left prefrontal cortex, the area of the brain associated with learning, creativity and a feeling of being able to cope. We are able to focus and the world looks like a friendly place. Consequently we see solutions more readily than problems.

The Amygdala, amygdalae actually ( there are two), calm down, adrenalin levels regulate and the body enjoys the effects of happy hormones such as oxytocin and vasopressin, further boosting a sense of “I can do it” and an attitude of cooperation.

Building New Neurons with Mindfulness Training

Just 8 weeks of Mindfulness practice creates helpful changes in the activity and structure of several brain areas including the prefrontal cortex and amygdala. As a result, the fight and flight response is dialled down and thoughts and emotions become regulated.

MBSR Handout

In collaboration with Scinopsis, OMindfulness ran a workshop at the European Medical Writers Association conference in Birmingham in 2017

“Mindfulness has been a key part of my personal development programme. I find with regular meditation I am more centred, happier and better able to focus and deal with difficulties creatively. I work with 15 fabulous PhD writers and I wanted them to have the opportunity to study Mindfulness for their own benefit and to help them manage what is often a high-stress job with tight deadlines. Those who attended the 8 week course reported marked improvement in their work and home life. The feedback included reports of being able to cope with pressure serenely and see solutions instead of being blocked in anxiety. Time became less pressured for many and it was noted that being mindful helped non-mindful colleagues to be calmer too.”

- Helen Baldwin, Director of Scinopsis Medical Writers

“Our attention is constantly being bombarded. Mindfulness cultivates our ability to sustain
attention for longer periods of time – to actively be in the moment in order to make clear

“Clarity, focus, creativity and compassion: these are the attributes of mindful leadership”

“Leadership Presence is not only critical for us as individuals but also has a ripple effect on those around us: the community we live in, and potentially the world.”

- Janice Marturano,
Former Vice President, Public Responsibility and Deputy General Counsel, General Mills Inc.
Founder of the Institute for Mindful Leadership
